St. John's Episcopal Church (Church of the Presidents)

St. John's Lafayette Square was built in 1815–1816 in the Federal style and is commonly known as the 'Church of the Presidents.' Located directly north of the White House on Lafayette Square, it has been regularly attended by U.S. presidents and White House staff since the early 19th century, with accounts noting presidential worship there beginning with James Madison. The church was repaired after damage in 1814 and has undergone multiple restorations while remaining an active Episcopal parish and historic site.
