Whitehill House

The Whitehill House, built in 1808, is the oldest surviving building in Ryegate, Vermont, showcasing distinctive stonework by Scottish immigrants. Located on Groton-Peacham Road, this historic house features a 1+1⁄2 story main block with a broad gabled roof and a center entrance. It was constructed by James Whitehill, a Scottish immigrant and local Presbyterian church founder. The house remained in the Whitehill family until 1928 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, making it a significant site for tourists and researchers interested in early American architecture and immigrant history.
