Singer Building (demolished 1968)

The Singer Building at 149 Broadway was completed in 1908 and stood about 612 feet (187 m) tall, briefly holding the title of the world's tallest building. It was demolished in 1968 to make way for the modern office development that includes One Liberty Plaza. Its destruction became a notable example cited in later New York City preservation debates.
