Old Corner Bookstore

The structure at 283 Washington Street was constructed in the early 18th century and later became known as the Old Corner Bookstore. In the mid-19th century it housed publishers including Ticknor and Fields and served as a center for American literary publishing associated with authors such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. The building is preserved as a historic landmark in downtown Boston and today contains retail and commercial tenants.
