Fox Theatre (1928 movie palace)

The Fox Theatre opened in 1928 and was designed by architect C. Howard Crane as an opulent movie palace featuring lavish ornamentation that blends Arabian, Persian and Egyptian-inspired motifs. Built as part of William Fox's chain of theaters, it originally served vaudeville and film audiences and was one of the largest theaters in the country at the time. After periods of decline and closure, the Fox was restored and reopened in 1988 and remains a major performing arts venue in downtown Detroit.
