Boston Public Library – McKim Building

The McKim Building of the Boston Public Library at 700 Boylston Street in Copley Square opened in 1895 and is an acclaimed example of Beaux-Arts architecture. The building houses notable murals by artists such as John Singer Sargent and panels by Edwin Austin Abbey and was part of the nation's first large free municipal library system. It remains a cultural and architectural landmark in the Back Bay neighborhood and offers reading rooms, exhibitions, and public programs.
