Cabrillo National Monument - Point Loma archaeological sites and Indigenous interpretation

Cabrillo National Monument on the Point Loma peninsula contains archaeological evidence of long-term Indigenous occupation, including shell middens and other prehistoric sites attributed to ancestral coastal peoples now identified as Kumeyaay. The National Park Service recognizes and interprets the indigenous history of the area in its exhibits and educational materials, noting centuries of Native use of coastal resources. Point Loma's cultural resources are part of the monument's protected landscape.
