Ji Xiaolan Residence

The Ji Xiaolan Residence, located in Beijing, China, is a historic site that was home to the renowned scholar Ji Yun, also known as Ji Xiaolan, during the Qing dynasty. This residence, originally built for Yue Zhongqi, features beautiful gardens with flowering quince and wisteria, which Ji himself planted. The site has hosted many notable figures and has evolved over the years, serving various purposes including a Communist Party school and a Shanxi cuisine restaurant, Jinyang Restaurant, which is famous for its crispy fried duck. The residence is now a protected cultural site, attracting international visitors who come to appreciate its rich history and artistic ambiance. Notable guests have included former U.S. President George H.W. Bush and other prominent political figures. The site was preserved after public protests against its demolition, and it officially opened to the public in 2002.
