Wahrenberger House

The Wahrenberger House, located just two blocks from the Texas Capitol in Austin, is a historic residence built between 1867 and 1868. Originally constructed by Friedrich Huster, it was later owned by Charles Klein and named after his daughter, Caroline Wahrenberger. The house has a rich history, serving as a home for the Klein-Wahrenberger family and hosting two German-American schools. Notable figures such as future Texas governor Pat Morris Neff and Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn lived there when it operated as a boarding house. The architecture features limestone construction with later modifications, including a portico and stucco exterior. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1972, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Texas history.
