National World War II Memorial - commemorating Americans who served in WWII

The National World War II Memorial, dedicated in 2004 on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial, honors the more than 16 million Americans who served in the armed forces and the civilians who supported the war effort. The memorial’s design features 56 granite pillars representing U.S. states and territories during World War II and twin arches marking the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.
