Half Way House (Chatham, Massachusetts)

The Half Way House is a historic shelter located on Forest Beach Road in Chatham, Massachusetts, originally built in the late 19th century to protect shipwrecked mariners. Once situated opposite the Old Harbor U.S. Life Saving Station, it is believed to be the last of its kind established by the Massachusetts Humane Society. After being damaged in a hurricane in 1944, it was relocated several times before settling at its current location. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in maritime history.
