The Heidelberg Project

The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor community art environment created by artist Tyree Guyton beginning in 1986 on Heidelberg Street in Detroit’s McDougall-Hunt neighborhood. The project uses painted houses and found-object installations to create large-scale public art and has been a long-running site for neighborhood art, tours, and community programming. The installations have been subject to changes over time, including removals and restorations, and the site remains open to visitors as an evolving art environment.
