Boar's Head Inn, Eastcheap

The Boar's Head Inn, a historic tavern in Eastcheap, City of London, is famously linked to Shakespeare's Henry IV plays, serving as the fictional meeting place for Sir John Falstaff and Prince Hal. Although the original inn, established before 1537, was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666, its legacy endures through literary references and the neo-Gothic building designed by Robert Lewis Roumieu in 1868, which features decorative elements inspired by the inn. The site is now part of the approach to London Bridge, and the boar's head sign is preserved at Shakespeare's Globe theatre. Washington Irving also explored the tavern's lore in his writings, adding to its cultural significance.
