Bugsy Siegel and the Flamingo's mob-linked origins

The Flamingo Hotel & Casino opened on December 26, 1946; its development was financed in part by Benjamin 'Bugsy' Siegel and associates linked to organized crime. Siegel was fatally shot on June 20, 1947, an event widely reported and connected in historical accounts to disputes over the Flamingo's construction costs and profits. The Flamingo's early history is frequently cited in histories of Las Vegas' mid-20th-century organized-crime influence.
