National Postal Museum's postal-history collections

The Smithsonian National Postal Museum, located adjacent to Union Station, opened in 1993 and documents the history of the U.S. postal system, philately, and related communications technologies. Its exhibitions include historic stamps, postal artifacts, mail transportation displays, and educational programs for school groups and the public. The museum preserves and interprets the material culture of mail service as part of national history.
