National Archives of Timor-Leste

The National Archives of East Timor, located in Dili, serves as the custodian of the nation's official documents and archival materials. Established in the aftermath of significant destruction during the late 1990s, it has evolved from a UN initiative into a vital national institution. The archives not only focus on preserving historically important documents but also promote public access and scholarly research. With international cooperation, including support from the University of Coimbra, the archives aim to enhance archival practices and preserve the legacy of significant events, such as the Santa Cruz massacre. Today, the National Archives employs a diverse team dedicated to safeguarding East Timor's historical narrative.
