Downer Rowhouses

The Downer Rowhouses are historic Second Empire row houses located in Somerville, Massachusetts, built around 1880. They are notable for being among the first of their kind in the city and are situated on residential streets just south of Broadway in the Winter Hill neighborhood. Each set consists of five mirror-image residences featuring distinctive mansard roofs and elegant architectural details. These rowhouses were constructed by local developer Cutler Downer during a time when Winter Hill was a fashionable residential area. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, making them a significant attraction for tourists and researchers interested in Victorian architecture and local history.
