Batley Variety Club

Batley Variety Club, located in Batley, West Yorkshire, was a renowned venue that showcased legendary performers such as Louis Armstrong, Shirley Bassey, and Tom Jones from its opening in 1967 until its closure in 1978. Designed by James and Betty Corrigan, the club featured a unique tiered seating arrangement that provided excellent views of the stage, creating an intimate atmosphere for audiences. At its peak, it boasted 300,000 members and was dubbed the 'Las Vegas of the North.' The club not only entertained but also boosted the local economy, benefiting nearby businesses. After several transformations, including a brief stint as a nightclub and later a gym, the building remains a notable part of Batley's cultural history, with calls for recognition of its impact on the community.
