Harrer Building

The Harrer Building, located at 8051 North Lincoln Avenue in Skokie, Illinois, is a historic structure built in 1874 by Bavarian immigrant Michael Harrer. Originally serving as both a family home and the first meat market in the area, it stands as the oldest commercial building in Skokie. Notable for its unique Italianate architectural style, the building reflects the early development of the village, with the Harrer family playing key roles in local governance. It was recognized for its historical significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers.
