Wave Organ (Richards & Gonzalez)

The Wave Organ is an acoustic sculpture by Peter Richards and George Gonzalez opened in 1986 at the end of a jetty in the Marina district. The work uses carved stone and a system of PVC pipes and chambers to amplify tide-driven sounds, producing tones that change with the tide and sea conditions. It is managed by the Port of San Francisco and is a noted example of sound-based public art in the city.
