Roy Hofheinz and the Houston Astrodome

Harris County Judge Roy Hofheinz led the effort to build the Houston Astrodome, which opened in 1965 as the world's first multi-purpose domed sports stadium. Hofheinz's promotion and political leadership were central to financing and developing the project, which transformed professional sports and entertainment venue design.
