Palace of Fine Arts (Panama-Pacific Exposition)

The Palace of Fine Arts was originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition and was designed by architect Bernard Maybeck as a classical Roman-inspired rotunda and colonnade. The original exposition structures were built as temporary materials; the Palace was reconstructed in permanent materials in the 1960s to preserve the landmark. Its monumental dome and reflected lagoon remain a notable example of early 20th-century Beaux-Arts exhibition architecture in San Francisco. The site is listed as part of the city's historical fabric related to the 1915 exposition.
