Joshua Hett Smith House

The Joshua Hett Smith House, also known as Treason House, was a historic site in West Haverstraw, New York, significant for its role during the American Revolutionary War. Built around 1770, it served as a meeting place for General Benedict Arnold and British Major John André, where they conspired to surrender the fort at West Point. The house also briefly functioned as headquarters for General George Washington in 1781. Despite its historical importance, the house was demolished in 1929 to make way for a children's hospital expansion. Today, the site is remembered for its pivotal role in American history, particularly in the context of treason and military strategy.
