Massachusetts State House (Charles Bulfinch)

The Massachusetts State House on Beacon Hill was designed by architect Charles Bulfinch and completed in 1798, representing an important example of early American Federal-style civic architecture. Its prominent gilded dome, originally sheathed in wooden shingles and later covered with copper and gold leaf, is a long-standing city landmark visible from the Charles River and surrounding neighborhoods. The building houses the offices of the governor and the Massachusetts legislature.
