Sutro Baths ruins at Lands End

The Sutro Baths were a large public saltwater swimming complex built by Adolph Sutro in 1896; the wooden structure burned in 1966 and its stone and concrete remains now lie in a collapsed, partially buried state on the cliffs at Lands End. The ruins and debris terraces are visible from the Lands End Trail and have been subject to coastal erosion and periodic archaeological and stabilization work. The site is managed as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is a documented example of a 19th-century recreational complex reduced to ruin along the shoreline.
