Great Western Building

The Great Western Building in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is a historic structure that has served multiple purposes since its construction in 1764. Originally built as the residence for Governor William Hornby, it later became the Admiralty House and then the Recorder's Court, the precursor to the Supreme Court of Bombay. In the late 19th century, it was transformed into the Great Western Hotel, featuring a five-story wing designed by architect S. M. N. Chandabhoy. The building showcases a blend of neoclassical and Victorian architectural styles, with its buff-colored stone facade, Doric columns, and high ceilings designed for passive cooling. Although the hotel ceased operations in the mid-20th century, the building remains a significant landmark, reflecting Mumbai's colonial history and architectural evolution.
