California Academy of Sciences

The California Academy of Sciences traces its institutional roots to 1853 and occupies a purpose-built building in Golden Gate Park that reopened in 2008. The modern facility combines an aquarium, a natural history museum, a rainforest exhibit under a glass dome, and a planetarium beneath a living roof. Its design by Renzo Piano and public programming have made it a major center for natural-science education and community engagement in San Francisco.
