Union Building, Toronto

The Union Building, an architectural gem in Toronto, was constructed in 1908 at the corner of King and Simcoe streets, opposite the Lieutenant Governor's residence. Originally known as the Canadian General Electric Company Building, it features a six-story design by Darling and Pearson, with a seventh floor and copper mansard roof added in the 1980s. Recognized for its historical significance, it has been listed on the City's Inventory of Heritage Properties since 2007 and recommended for heritage protection in 2010. A proposed 310-metre addition aims to make it one of Canada's tallest buildings by 2026.
