Crack Is Wack (Keith Haring)

Crack Is Wack is a mural painted by Keith Haring in 1986 on the exterior wall of a handball court in East Harlem as a public anti-drug message; Haring painted it without permission and later worked with the city to preserve it. The mural became an officially maintained public artwork and has been restored multiple times; it is one of Haring's best-known outdoor works in New York City. The site remains a documented example of street art crossing into sanctioned public art within the city's public spaces.
