EPA Region 1 oversight of stormwater permitting (MS4)

EPA Region 1, based in Boston, oversees implementation of the federal NPDES municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permitting program affecting portions of the Boston region. The City of Boston is subject to stormwater permitting requirements and coordinates with EPA and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on stormwater controls, monitoring, and reporting. EPA Region 1 provides guidance and enforcement related to illicit discharges to storm drains and to compliance with MS4 permit conditions.
