Kimbell Art Museum building (Louis Kahn) and Renzo Piano expansion

The Kimbell Art Museum's original building in Fort Worth was designed by architect Louis I. Kahn and opened in 1972; it is widely noted for its cycloid concrete-vaulted galleries and skylights that modulate natural light. In 2013 the museum opened an adjacent expansion building designed by Renzo Piano to provide additional gallery space while preserving Kahn's original structure. Both the Kahn building and the Piano addition are frequently cited as site-specific architectural installations that shape how artworks are exhibited and experienced.
