Whaley House Museum

The Whaley House was built in 1857 by Thomas Whaley in Old Town San Diego and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over time the building housed a general store, a theater, and served as the county courthouse; it is now operated as a house museum interpreting mid-19th-century local history. The wood-frame structure is one of San Diego's earliest substantial residences and is documented in local historic surveys.
