Akademicheskaya Dacha

Akademicheskaya Dacha, located near Vyshny Volochyok in Tver Province, is the oldest creative base of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation, established in 1884. Nestled by the picturesque Msta River and Lake Mstino, it served as a summer retreat for impoverished students of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Renowned artists such as Ilya Repin and Isaac Levitan have worked here, contributing to its reputation as a center for Russian realistic art, often referred to as the 'Russian Barbizon.' The Dacha has undergone various transformations, including serving as a children's summer camp post-1917, before regaining its artistic focus in 1948. Today, it continues to be a vibrant hub for artists, celebrating its rich history and artistic legacy.
