Union League of Philadelphia

The Union League of Philadelphia, founded in 1862, is a historic private club that originally supported the Union during the Civil War and the policies of Abraham Lincoln. Located in a stunning Second Empire-style building completed in 1865, it has evolved over the years to include a diverse membership, admitting its first Black member in 1972 and women in the 1980s. The club has a rich collection of Civil War artifacts and a library, and it actively supports public education through its Legacy Foundation. Celebrating its 160th anniversary in 2022, the Union League remains a politically conservative institution with a notable history and influential members.
