Kuwait Water Towers

The Kuwait Water Towers, completed in 1976, are a striking group of 31 water towers located in Kuwait City. Designed by Swedish architect Sune Lindström, these 'mushroom towers' are made of reinforced concrete and serve as key landmarks in their districts, each holding 3,000 cubic meters of water. The towers are part of a modern water-supply system commissioned by the Kuwaiti government in 1965. Notably, the iconic Kuwait Towers, which include two water towers, were designed to be more spectacular and are a highlight of the city. Together, these structures have a total water capacity of 102,000 cubic meters and were recognized with the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1980.
