Bicentennial Capitol Mall - interpretive site for the Nashville Basin

Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park contains interpretive exhibits and a large granite map that identify Nashville’s location within the Nashville Basin, a geologic lowland of Ordovician limestone surrounded by the Highland Rim. The Basin’s limestone bedrock is responsible for the region’s karst phenomena-sinkholes, caves, and springs-that form geographic anomalies within the city and surrounding county. The park provides public interpretation of how this geology shaped the city’s landscape.
