University of Texas Main Building (The Tower)

The Main Building at the University of Texas at Austin, commonly called the Tower, was completed in 1937 and serves as the university's administrative center. The limestone-clad tower rises to 307 feet and has long been an iconic element of the campus skyline. The Tower houses a carillon and historically offered an observation deck; it was also the site of the documented 1966 sniper attack by Charles Whitman, a widely reported event in the building's history.
