Fairmount Water Works historic municipal waterworks

The Fairmount Water Works, located on the Schuylkill River, served as Philadelphia's municipal waterworks from 1815 until 1909 and was a major early American engineering landmark. The complex's classical pump houses and raceways were designed to protect the city's drinking water and later became a public attraction and interpretive center. Today it functions as a visitor center and event space that interprets the site's engineering, environmental, and urban history.
