Frost Garrison and House

The Frost Garrison and House, located in Eliot, Maine, is a historic complex featuring colonial-era buildings, including a house built around 1778 and two garrison structures dating back to 1735. These buildings were originally constructed for defense against Native American attacks and represent the only known surviving garrison built for a single family. The site is notable as the ancestral home of poet Robert Frost, who is known to have visited. The main house showcases original architectural features such as wide pine floors and detailed plasterwork. The garrisons exhibit evidence of military action and were used for storage after the threat subsided. This unique historical site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and offers a glimpse into the colonial history and family heritage of the region.
