Unisphere (Flushing Meadows–Corona Park)

The Unisphere is a 12-story stainless steel globe constructed as the symbol of the 1964–65 New York World's Fair and dedicated on August 28, 1964. It remains a permanent, large-scale outdoor sculpture and landmark in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park and is surrounded by a reflecting pool and stylized orbital rings that reference the space age. The Unisphere is maintained by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and is a frequently photographed example of mid-20th-century world-fair installation design.
