Charles Street Jail (now Liberty Hotel)

The Charles Street Jail, completed in 1851 and designed by architect Gridley J.F. Bryant, is a mid-19th-century granite jail in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood. The former jail was adaptively reused and reopened as the Liberty Hotel in 2007, a conversion that preserved the building's central rotunda and many historic architectural elements. The structure is often cited as an example of historic preservation combined with contemporary adaptive reuse.
