Lok Bhavan, Pune

Lok Bhavan, formerly known as Raj Bhavan, is the monsoon residence of the Governor of Maharashtra, located in Pune, India. Built in 1866 by architect James Trubshawe, it served as the monsoon retreat for the Governor of Bombay during the British Raj. The site has historical significance, including the infamous assault on plague officer Walter Charles Rand in 1897. While the Governor's stay has now been reduced to a symbolic month, Pune remains a key location for official celebrations, reflecting its historical status as the second capital of Western India. The pleasant climate during the monsoon has long made it a favored retreat, showcasing Pune's rich colonial heritage and architectural beauty.
