Rothko Chapel (Mark Rothko paintings installation)

The Rothko Chapel is a non-denominational octagonal chapel that contains fourteen large paintings by Mark Rothko installed as a single, site-specific ensemble. Opened in 1971, the dimly lit interior and arrangement of the paintings were conceived as a contemplative installation combining art and architecture. The chapel is adjacent to the Menil Collection and is open to the public for viewing and quiet reflection.
