Hartrigge House

Hartrigge House, also known as Stewartfield House, was a notable country house located in Jedburgh, Scotland, with a rich history dating back to its first owner, Andrew Miller, in 1614. The house underwent a significant rebuild in 1854 under the direction of architect David Bryce for John Campbell, 1st Baron Campbell, who was a prominent lawyer and Lord Chancellor. The estate witnessed dramatic events, including a notorious duel involving John Stewart and Sir Gilbert Eliott in the early 18th century. Although the main house was demolished in the 1950s, several outbuildings and lodges, such as Hartrigge Lodge and Wildcat Lodge, remain, offering a glimpse into the estate's storied past. The house also hosted notable figures, including poet laureate John Betjeman, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
