Cabrillo National Monument (Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo)

Cabrillo National Monument commemorates the 1542 landing in San Diego Bay by explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, the first documented European to navigate the coast of present-day California. The monument sits on the Point Loma peninsula and interprets the landing, regional maritime history, and local natural features. The park also contains the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, which was built in 1855 and is preserved as part of the site.
