The Old Globe Theatre

The Old Globe in Balboa Park was originally built for the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition as a replica of an Elizabethan theatre and serves as the home of the Old Globe company and its annual Shakespeare productions. The original wooden structure burned in 1978 and the current complex was rebuilt and expanded, reopening in the early 1980s with multiple performance spaces. The Old Globe is a long-standing center for regional theatre and new play development in San Diego.
