United Mine Workers of America Building

The United Mine Workers of America Building, located at 900 Fifteenth St. NW in Washington, D.C., is a historic site that served as the international headquarters of the United Mine Workers from 1936 to 1999. Originally built in 1912 as the University Club, this six-story Renaissance Revival structure features a blend of brick, limestone, and bluestone. Under the leadership of John L. Lewis, the union significantly improved labor conditions and played a key role in the New Deal era. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2005, the building now houses residential spaces while retaining its historical significance.
