Institute for the Blind, Copenhagen

The Royal Institute for the Blind, established in 1858 in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, was Denmark's first special school for blind students. Designed by Ferdinand Meldahl, the Historicist building features a striking red brick facade and combines architectural influences from the Venetian Renaissance. Initially accommodating 60 students, the institute expanded in 1880 and served as a vital educational institution until its relocation in the 1960s.
