Fort Worth Water Gardens-subterranean-style active pool

The Fort Worth Water Gardens, designed by architect Philip Johnson and opened in 1974 as part of the Fort Worth Convention Center complex, contains three distinct pools: the Aerating Pool, the Active Pool, and the Quiet Pool. The Active Pool is a stepped concrete pavilion where water cascades down multiple levels into a recessed basin and drains into an underground outlet, producing the visual effect of water flowing below grade. The gardens are a documented civic water feature and tourist site adjacent to the convention center.
