Horse Camp is a scenic 720-acre property located on Mount Shasta, California, at an elevation of approximately 7,950 feet. Owned by the Sierra Club Foundation, it serves as a popular base camp for climbers tackling the mountain's renowned routes, including Avalanche Gulch. Accessible via a 2-mile hike from Bunny Flat trailhead, visitors can find the historic Shasta Alpine Lodge, built in 1923 with indigenous materials, which offers emergency shelter and a library of mountain literature. The camp features low-impact campsites, a freshwater spring, and a solar-powered composting toilet. Open year-round, Horse Camp is a hub for mountaineering enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, with a caretaker present during the summer months to assist visitors.
